A Busy Fall

I've been away from my yarn for a bit as the school year has started up and I have returned to my main job of teacher.  The busy schedule of setting up, welcoming, and getting to know my new 2nd graders didn't leave time for much else.  Then throw in a busy football and volleyball schedule for my 2 oldest and I have found myself tied to my classroom, car, gym, or football field.  I am trying to get back to my yarn though as I am preparing for a craft fair in November.  Here are a few new creations I tried out just for the vendor fair.  Check them out!  I am loving getting back to my yarn!

Making Something Old New Again

Almost 14 years ago I made my first baby blanket when I was expecting my oldest daughter.  I used the same pattern to make similar blankets for my two boys.  This summer I revisited the favorite blanket pattern, but added some of my own little tweaks to it..  I created a fun border and used one of my favorite new yarns to give it an extra soft and warm feel.  I'm loving the way it turned out!

Tooth Fairy Friends

It was a hot weekend here....too hot to work on the blanket I'm currently playing around with.   So I played around a little bit and made up some more Tooth Fairy pillows.   The friendly little turtle and a simple white tooth.  The white tooth pillow could be jazzed up in a lot of different ways - color, changing the crown to a bow, adding some ribbon, a tutu could even be added to the bottom!  So many possibilities!

New Blanket

It has been awhile since I have made a full sized blanket. Well, correction, it has been awhile since I have FINISHED a full sized blanket.  I do have 3 blankets I am working on as personal projects for myself, but I keep putting them on the back burner of my to-do list.  However, I did finish this large throw recently.   It is an original design, which was somewhat of a new adventure for me.  While I have adapted designs before, this was my first truly original creation.  It was a lot of fun to design from start to finish.   There are so many fun ways that I could change this up.   I think I may need to add one to my to-do list for myself!  Made with Bernat Blanket Yarn, this has a super soft feel to it.

Tooth Fairy Pillow with a Twist

Earlier this week my 6 year old excitedly announced that he had his very first wiggly tooth.   Of course, I saw this as an opportunity and offered to make him his very own tooth fairy pillow.   He was not at all impressed with the white tooth shaped pillow I had shown him.  After seeing a picture he decided he NEEDED to have the dragon Toothless from the movie How to Train Your Dragon because, as he puts it "Get it Mom?  TOOTH....LESS!"  So after some playing around, this is what we came up with - a tooth shaped pillow that somewhat resembles his favorite dragon.

A little variety....

These last few months have kept me busy with a variety of different projects, ranging from a summer bag, a doll blanket, and a baby blanket that has quickly become one of my favorites.  I even had the chance to make a sweet newborn mermaid tail, complete with headband.  And if your littlest bundle is your little princess, I have a crown for her too.   Here are just a few of my latest projects.

A little something new....

One of the things I love most about KBean is the chance to try something new in order create a unique item for someone special.   I just finished this fun little baby doll this weekend - ready to be gifted for a new mom-to-be.   Thanks for the opportunity to make something new!

Completing the Outift

The past two weekends my my teenage daughter talked me into taking her shopping.  She has been busy spending gift cards she received from Christmas and her birthday.   She loves the leggings and boot look and was able to treat herself to some of each.   With each purchase she would comment "Some (insert color) boot cuffs would look SOOOOO cute with this."  Hint. Hint.   Lucky for her she has a mom who likes to play around with yarn and rarely turns down an excuse to try something new!   She hand-picked these patterns to match some of her newest outfits.  So much fun to make!  Stayed tuned though....there is another pair in the works coming soon!

Winter Days

It has been very cold here lately with temperatures struggling to get above zero.  While I'm not a fan of the crazy cold temps, I do LOVE the excuse to stay holed up inside spending time with my family.  I also love curling up by the fireplace at night with an excuse to play with my yarn (not that I NEED an excuse!)  This weekend was a productive one.  I was able to finish some fun projects, including a few new ones.  Check out the fingerless gloves, the new ear warmer, and the twist on the hand-knitted cowl with a button strap....all perfect for those cold winter days!
